Secondment of Andrea Ramirez-Ramirez from Universidad de Antioquia (COL) to the Plant Developmental Systems (NL) – June-August 2024

Andrea Ramirez-Ramirez (Universidad de Antioquia, CO) spent 2 months at the Plant Developmental Systems department in Wageningen University (NL) to evaluate protein interactions among MADS-box proteins involved in floral organ identity from Hedyosmum goudotianum. During this time, Andrea conducted a pair-wise protein-protein interaction assay of the FUL, SEP1, SEP3, PI, AP3, and AGL6 homologs of Hedyosmum goudotianum using the yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) system. Y2H, in …

Secondment of Valentina Botero-Castaño from University of Antioquia (CO) to the University of Padova (IT) – June-July 2024

Valentina Botero-Castaño (UdeA) travelled to the group of Dr. Barbara Baldan (UniPadova) at the Botanical Garden of Padova where she spent two months. During this time she made anatomical sections of mature fruits of Gaiadendron punctatum and worked on ovule development in some gymnosperms. She used immunohistochemistry to locate auxins in Wollemia nobilis ovules, a hormone involved in meristematic …

Secondment of Natalia Pabón-Mora from the University of Antioquia (COL) to the University of Padova (IT) – June 2024

Natalia Pabon Mora spend one month At Unipd with the group of Dr. Barbara Baldan. During this time Natalia was able to collect Aristolochia rotunda  for transcriptome analyses from the historical collections of the Botanical Garden of Padova, the oldest in Europe. In addition, she performed In situ hybridization analyses of several MADS-box genes isolated from Hedyosmum …

Secondment of Sebastiano Nigris from University of Padova (IT) to the New York Botanical Garden (US) – August-October 2023

From late August to October (2 months) Sebastiano Nigris (University of Padova and Botanical Garden of Padova, IT) traveled to the NYBG (US) to perform in situ hybridization expression analyses in the laboratory of Dr. Barbara Ambrose. Sebastiano assessed the expression of genes known to be important for fruit ripening in the model species Arabidopsis thaliana but for which …

Secondment of Cecilia Zumajo-Cardona from University of Milano (IT) to the New York Botanical Garden (US) – August-October 2023

Cecilia Zumajo-Cardona (UNIMI) spent 1 month and a half with the group of Dr. Barbara Ambrose (NYBG). During this time, Cecilia was able to perform in situ hybridization expression analyses to pinpoint exactly when and where several genes are expressed in the reproductive tissues of the plant Arabidopsis thaliana, a model species for plant biology. Among the genes …

Secondment of Kai Thoris (WPR, Wageningen) to NYBG (April 30 -July 8, 2023)

During the secondment Kai worked on two different projects: in-situ hybridization of tomato MADS-box genes and DAP-seq with Selaginella moellendorffii MADS-box proteins. The Ambrose group at NYBG has a lot of expertise in conducting in-situ hybridizations and I learned how to use this technique myself with a couple of different genes. These tomato genes are …
